Although I live in Texas you still need heat! You have to have defrosters! It gets mighty hard seeing
through a frosted window so......so a heater is needed. An electric solid
state, temperature limiting unit so I didn't have to worry about a meltdown. This unit self
limits to 180 degrees and the more air you blow through it the more heat you get. Below is how
it is installed.
This photo shows the original heater core from the Fiero after it has had a lobotomy. Literally
took a power saw and cut away the center of the core leaving only one core tube on either side for
support of the end caps. This allowed the use the original heater core mounts in the Fiero.
The New Heater
After the center has been cut out the new electric heater core is mounted in the opening. The
thickness of the new unit is slightly larger but there was extra material that was able to be
trimmed away to bring it to the same thickness. The end result is a flush mount on both sides
of the original core.
The New Heater
This view is in the passenger foot well looking up behind the dash where the original heater
core was mounted. The newly converted heater core fits in exactly the same place and the power
wires are routed out the same way the water hoses were routed. (The plastic cover for the
ventilation system is still removed in this photo. When installed the heater is not visible.)
